Abu ʾl-Qasim Ferdowsi Tosi, the epic poet of Iran, was born in a village called Paj. This historical village is located 15 km north of Mashhad, at the intersection of Kardeh Road and Kalat Naderi. Two hills are located 700 meters northwest of Paj Village which locals call Paj Old Castle. The colorful and glazed pottery and the remains of Paj Old castle have been discovered and show the continuity of life in the early centuries after the advent of Islam until the ninth and tenth centuries. There is an unknown antiquity hill, with pottery and colorful tiles scattered around, which is located on a high hill in the old plain of Khorasan; it shows Mashhad’s ancient history. Some believe that these works are the relics of the early centuries of the Islam around the middle ages to the tenth century. When you are away from the city and want to travel, Paj village is one of the best and most beautiful places for tourists and travelers.
