If you travel to Qeshm Island during your trip to Iran you would see thick walls in some parts of the city. These are the remains of those days that Portuguese has the control of the Persian Gulf and its islands. After they gained the control, they built castles that some of them are still standing. Among them Portuguese Castle or as it is called by local people Qeshm Castle is one of the famous one. Throughout excavation during 1987, the castle has shown its magnificence to the archaeologists for the first time. Although some parts of Portuguese Castle were completely destroyed because of a catastrophic earthquake, the remained parts still have a lot to offer to tourists. It seems that the castle was used as the arsenal for keeping war armory. It is interesting to know that resident of the castle provide their supply of water through the rain and the well water which was kept in an underground channel. The current castle includes the ruins of gun warehouse, water reservoir, soldier’s room, church, leader office and salon. All these sections are made of lime and mortar.
