Negarestan Palace or Garden was built upon the order of Fath Ali Shah Qajar in the early 18th century. He had the plan to establish a governmental center in Tehran. Due to the existence of many paintings and murals remaining from Qajar dynasty, the palace was named Negarestan which means the place of paintings. At first, Negarestan Garden was very big. There were several halls and mansions in this garden such as Delgosha Mansion, Salam and Ghalamdan Halls. Negarestan Garden has witnessed many historical and social events such as the murder of the famous Iranian prime minister, Ghaem Magham Farahani by Mohammad Shah Qajar and some of his followers. Later, as Tehran was expanded, the garden lost its importance and was allocated to different cultural centers. During the kingdom of Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar, two schools were established in this garden. Many famous Iranian artists, scientists and poems were educated in these schools and the schools took benefit of knowledgeable instructors. Unfortunately, Negarestan Garden faced many destructions in its different parts but during the recent decades, a lot of efforts were done to renovate the garden.
