Garmsar is one of the desert towns in Semnan Province, which by cultivating cotton is titled as the pole of cotton production in the province. Many fields were under cultivating cotton in Garmsar. For this purpose, during the first Pahlavi era, a factory was built in Garmsar for the processing cotton at an area of 30,000 square meters. A large part of the Cotton Factory (the Museum of Science and Technology) was allocated to cotton storage, and each village had its own warehouse. At the top of the warehouses there was a valve that was used by the machine for cotton suction. In the same years, a cotton cleaner machine was bought for Garmsar Cotton Factory (Museum of Science and Technology) from Germany. This machine had a suction pipe that pulled cotton from the inside of the storage vane and, during the operation, separated the cotton from its seeds. Cotton Factory continued to operate up to recent years, but with the transfer to the private sector, they began some repairs and in 2014, it was opened as the Garden Museum of Science and Technology. At the present time, a part of the Garmsar Cotton Factory is active as the Garmsar Handicrafts Market. There are also cafes in this area for hosting tourists and visitors.
