Accommodating in a historical place with modern facilities can be a pleasant experience with long-life memory. Gouged Stronghold, with 6000 square meters in Golpayegan dates back to four centuries ago. Gouged Stronghold is located on Silk Road, and, on the one hand, it was used as a military fortress during the wars and on the other hand as a safe caravanserai for merchants in peacetime. The upper floor of the citadel was allocated to important merchants and rich people, and the lower floor was for other people. There are four towers in each corner of the citadel as tall as 12 meters. The courtyard of the citadel is a vast area decorated with various types of trees while a turquoise pool in the middle of the courtyard along with red architecture of the building create an unimaginative scene. The security system of the Gouged Stronghold was simple but interesting. Accordingly, there have been many holes on the high part of the walls and pigeons used them as their nests. If attackers wanted to enter the citadel with hooks or ladders at night, the birds living on the walls informed the guards by flying and making noises. These days, the usage of the citadel has been reformed into a three-star hotel, providing accommodation facilities and amenities.
