Mentioned in many Iranian stories and poems, Aras River in Jolfa is one of the longest and most picturesque rivers which flows through Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. Aras River is considered as a natural border of Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nakhjavan. It originates from Mount Bingol in Turkey and finally flows into the Caspian Sea. Rich unspoiled nature, tall giant mountains along with cool fresh air have made this river a beautiful spot which receives many tourists. It is a popular location for hiking, boating, walking, and fishing. Also, it can be a great place for bird lovers, since various species migrate there annually. There are two stone made arch bridges across the Aras River which connect Azerbaijan to Iran. Aras has a length of 1072 km and it is always full of water. It is worth to know that it has 805 islands which based on Treaty of Turkmenchay, only 424 of these islands belong to Iran, although none of them is residential.
