Tehran, the capital of Iran, with over 9 million inhabitants in the city is the most populous city of the country. It was first chosen as the capital of Persia by Qajar dynasty in 1796. Since then, this city has been the destination for many trades and commerce. Therefore; many bazaars and trade centers came to existence. One of the most important and significant bazaar is the Grand Bazaar. Grand Bazaar in Tehran is an old historical market and at the same time the focal point of commerce in Iran. It is divided into several corridors over 10 kilometers long, each specializing in different types of goods. While the current bazaar is mostly associated with the 19th century onward developments, researches indicate that a portion of it predated the growth of Tehran under the Safavids in 16th century. Related studies show that traders have been transacting in the bazaar for more than 1,000 years, besides it is considered as one of the largest bazaar in the world. In addition, the bazaar is located in the downtown of Tehran and one can easily reach other attractions for example Golestan Palace. Grand Bazaar still plays an important role in country’s commerce.
