Darband Cave in Mehdishahr is one of the largest limestone caves in Iran, which in the past was a shelter place of human life. This cave is located 2 km away from Mahdishahr and 20 km north of Semnan and in the middle part of the Alborz Mountains. Darband Cave is related to the third era of geology and is made of sedimentary rocks. Due to the large amount of lime and solutes, Stalagmite columns are abundantly observed. The first excavations in the cave were carried out by local people, and there is no any detailed information about it, but later various sports teams and climbers explored the cave, and Mahmoud Daneshvar in 1327 could reach the end of the cave. Later in 1335, another group of visitors randomly found some jewelry and objects in the cave. After that, the Darband Cave was placed in the spotlight and various groups went there to discover the old pieces. The entrance to the cave is 75.2 m in width and 35.1 m height. At the entrance, there is a tunnel cave with a length of 24 meters and a width of 3 meters. Next to the entrance, there are traces of stile, which probably indicates that humans have created shelter for them. After that we will get to the main hall. The main hall is almost in oval shape and is about 91 meters long, 36 meters wide and in some places 20 meters high. Large boulders dispersed in the cave indicate the presence of earthquakes in distant past.
