You can find many old and historical castles in Meybod of Yazd which are left from the past. Mehrjard Castle is one of the remained castles from Zandieh and Afsharieh dynasty that is located in Darghaleh district in Meybod. Four corners of the castle are surrounded by four towers. There is also a tower above the south gate. These towers were used for guarding the city in the past. In the four sides of the castle, there was a dug-out moat which was protecting the castle that there is nothing left of it these days. Mehrjard Castle includes three floors that were connected to each other through stairs. Brick and clay layers are used in this castle which were common in original Iranian architecture. In the past, this castle also was used as a shelter which later turned into a school and after that the local people of Meybod were using it as a warehouse to store their things.
