Seh Gonbad Tomb Tower is located in the southeast part of Urmia and belongs to 12th century A.D. and was constructed by the order of one of the rulers of the Seljuq Dynasty. Some historians believe that this building was a fire temple belonging to Sassanid era, but they don’t have any reliable evidence to prove it. There are three stone inscriptions in Kufic script which have been curved on the entrance and show the date of Muharram, 580 A.H. Some archaeologists suppose that there were two other buildings around the tower and that’s why it is called Seh Gonbad Tomb Tower, which means three dome towers. Based on the studies over the entrance inscription, the tower might be the burial ground of two Seljuq’s kings. Seh Gonbad Tomb Tower was built in cylindrical and circular form and it is 13 meters high with two floors and there are porches on four sides of the structure. The first floor which is called Sardabeh (Crypt) has an adobe cover and is separated from the second floor. The second floor which is the tomb, has a door with the height of 2.5 meters. The tower was registered as a national heritage in 1935.
