Historical Hydraulic System in Shushtar dates back to 5th century, the time Darius the Great was ruling Iran. The construction is surely a masterpiece depicting creative genius. This monument consists of two main diversion canals built on Karun River, one of these canals is named Gargar and is currently in use, its function is to provide water to Shushtar through some tunnels supplying the mills with water. The view is just like a magnificent cliff letting water go down to the basin, afterward, the water enters a plain on the southern part of the city and water about 40 thousand hectares of farms and gardens famous as Mianab. In addition to the canals, the hydraulic system includes other parts as well, such as a castle, an operation center, a tower, damns, bridges, basins and mills. The remnant proves the intelligence and workmanship of Elamite, Mesopotamian and Nabatean experts as well as the influence of Roman Building.
