Dating back to Seljuk dynasty around 1172, Gonbad-e-Sorkh in Maragheh was built as a memorial building based on a special type of Iranian architecture which is called Razi Style. It is believed that Gonbad-e-Sorkh with its special window and holes in its walls worked as a calendar. The structure of the building is made of brick and tile and the tiles are used to decorate it. Overall, Gonbad-e-Sorkh has a square structure, consisting of a chamber and a main room that is erected on a rocky foundation. The interior part is a place with an incredible ceiling and to enter, you should pass a few steps. There are two inscriptions inside the dome that the one in northern part contains information about the guard of the dome and the other one on the western side contains the constructor name. The brickwork and decorations used in this building are spectacular and it’s an integration of turquoise tiles and red bricks which is admirable and unique in its kind.  Gonbad-e-Sorkh in Maragheh is visited by many tourists annually and it was registered as a national heritage in 1931.
