Originating from Mount Sahand in East Azerbaijan Province, Maradagh River pours into Urmia Lake after irrigating eastern part of Maragheh. Beside the recreational values of this river, it has also got a significant importance for geological studies. To pass through the white water waves of Maradagh River, Iranian architects erected many bridges over the river which one of them is Maradagh River in Maragheh. The history of its construction dates back to Safavid era, but its architecture is similar to Ilkhani Architectural style. With 42 meters length, the bridge was constructed with red local bricks and consists of three round top arches which the middle arch is a little bigger than the other ones. There are also two small barrel vaults in the bridge which not also do they make the bridge more beautiful, but cause the bridge to weight lighter.  The pile base of the bridge was made of local stones and decreases the torrential water flow. In old days, this bridge was the connecting line between Maragheh and Hashtrud (a city in East Azerbaijan), but now, it is just used by a few villages. Finally, it should be mentioned that Maradagh Bridge was registered as a national heritage in 2002.
