Located in northwest of Tehran, Qazvin is the capital city of a province with the same name. Due to its geographical location near Alborz mountain range, its climate is cold and dry. The city was always prosperous because it was located in the middle of Silk Road. Qazvin was chose as the capital city of Iran by Safavid dynasty. Nowadays, Qazvin is known as the calligraphy capital of Iran. Alamut Castle is one of the attractions of Qazvin, this mountain fortress was built by Hasan-i Sabbah. The castle consists of some strongholds. Chehel Sotoun Palace is the most important historical monument of Qazvin and is considered as the symbol of the city. The anthropology museum located inside a Qajar bath is more than 400 years old. The museum depicts the history of this society. Presence of many water reservoirs and Tehran Gate as well other sites make trip to Qazvin as more enjoyable as possible.
